Nancy studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied art history. Four years of intensive studio training at the Academy sharpened her eye for color and gave her a rigorous foundation for assessing and critiquing art across every medium. A practicing artist for more than twenty years, Nancy's own work ranged from traditional oil paintings to large-scale non-objective acrylic-based canvases, to site-specific installations incorporating photography, sculpture, text, and music, and was exhibited nationally.
Nancy's years as a practicing artist give her a rare vantage point as an art consultant. Having navigated the creative process firsthand, she understands the vulnerability and intention behind every piece. This understanding allows her to connect with artists on their own terms, building relationships rooted in mutual respect rather than transaction alone. Her insider's perspective also sharpens her eye when sourcing artwork for clients: she doesn't just evaluate a piece on technical merit, but discerns the ideas and emotion behind it, allowing her to match artwork to client with a depth and nuance that comes only from having stood on the other side of the easel.

From 2017 to 2024, Nancy served as the in-house art consultant for May Architecture in Atlanta, working primarily with Emory Healthcare, as their art consultant and collections manager/curator, sourcing fine art and fine crafts for locations throughout Metro Atlanta. While there, she curated and placed over 2,500 pieces of artwork, with project budgets ranging from $15,000 to $600,000, and maintained an online data management system for MAY’s clients.
Collection Management and Curatorship
From 2022 to 2026, Nancy served as the Eric & Barbara Carle Foundation's inaugural curator, engaged to document, research, and develop exhibitions of Eric Carle's full oeuvre, including paintings, graphic design, typography, costume design, sculpture, and more. While there, she envisioned the master plan to celebrate Carle's centennial and successfully proposed exhibitions for the Foundation's outreach to museums. She also created and implemented systems for collection management, archiving, and online database management, wrote website content for the Foundation's first website, and developed the framework for a catalog raisonné.
Teaching & Museum Curatorship
For more than ten years (1997–2007), Nancy taught studio art and art history at universities in western North Carolina. She then joined the Asheville Art Museum from 2007 to 2013, where she served as adult programs manager and a part of the curatorial team. During her tenure there, she was curator of record for several of the Museum's exhibitions, including The Philadelphia Story: Contemporary Figurative Art Drawn from the Academy, Homage² (squared), and Nouns: Children's Book Artists Look at People, Places and Things.
